Header Space Convention
a simple convention for pre-allocating scratch space in a FITS header
for later use when writing keywords.
9-December-2014 by W. Pence, NASA/GSFC
Date and Place of First Usage:
circa 1996, in the CFITSIO software library for reading and writing FITS files
Extent of Usage:
Moderate usage, especially in data files produced by high energy astrophysics missions
(e.g., from the HEASARC).
Sample FITS File:
headerspace.fits - This file has scratch space in the header for about 100 more keywords.
Sample Header Listing:
headerspace.txt - This listing suppresss the non-significant blank
keywords, so they are not visible.
